What Do the Records Look Like?
- The 1855 Wisconsin State Census records are handwritten in bound volumes. There is one basic form used:
Enumeration of the Inhabitants
- The census is organized by County and Town and then by Heads of Families.
- Index only the data posted with names of heads of families. Be aware that at various places in the books, enumerators have summarized numerical data and listed it in tabular form. This type of data is not to be indexed. Simply ignore it.
