Irish Birth Indexes 1864-1883

What Do the Records Look Like?

  • Current access to these records is limited. This index will provide wider access to patrons in Salt Lake City and around the world.
  • There are three different types of indexes in this project: Births, Marriages and Deaths. Example
  • In most cases, the names were recorded with the surname first.
  • The names are in alphabetical order by surname.  Occasionally, two or three names that are not in alphabetical order may be near the bottom of a page. Don't try to put them where they would go alphabetically. Type the names in the same order as they appear on the page.  Example
  • Typed records have three complete columns for each image.  Do not index partial images.  The information will be indexed by another indexer. Example
  • The Irish Civil Registration records may be either handwritten or typed.
    1. Handwritten Record
    2. Typed Record

How to Get Help:

  • These training materials describe the most common situations you will encounter as you index the Irish Civil Registration Records. However, new issues may surface, and you may have questions that are not answered here. If so, first contact your stake extraction director. Your stake extraction director can then contact Church headquarters. Together we can get you the help you need and revise the instructions, if necessary.
